Perak to Be Hub for Halal Meat Products

IPOH, Tues. - Perak will become the hub for halal meat products when a specialised food industrial park in Chemor near here is ready early next year. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said the State Development Corporation (SDC) had allocated 200ha for the construction of the park and another 0.4ha in Meru here as the distribution hub.

He said the SDC would co-operate with a prominent Western Australian food producer, Wheatbelt Growers Co-operative Ltd (WGCL), to establish the park.

WGCL would supply beef and lamb to be repackaged and distributed by companies at the industrial park.

WGCL, which is based in Dowerin, Western Australia, has the capacity to produce up to 100,000 sheep and 20,000 head of cattle annually.

Tajol Rosli said SDC has identified a local company which would repackage and produce value-added halal products from the imported meat.

"For the initial stage, the products will be marketed under one brand name. There will be more companies in the park which will produce the various halal products," he said at a Press conference after witnessing the signing ceremony...
